If you’re looking for a healthier and more flavorful alternative to store-bought chicken nuggets, why not try making your own at home? Homemade chicken nuggets are surprisingly easy to make and are a hit with kids and adults alike. By using fresh ingredients and controlling the cooking process, you can ensure that your nuggets are both delicious and nutritious.

To start, you’ll need boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and set aside. In a separate bowl, create a coating mixture by combining breadcrumbs and your choice of seasonings such as paprika, garlic powder, and dried herbs. Dip each piece of chicken into beaten eggs, then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, making sure to coat it evenly. Place the coated nuggets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Next, it’s time to cook the nuggets. Unlike deep-fried versions, homemade chicken nuggets can be baked to perfection. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the nuggets for about 15 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through. The result? Crispy, flavorful chicken nuggets that are much healthier than the fast food or frozen alternatives.

Serve your homemade chicken nuggets with your favorite dipping sauces, such as barbecue sauce, honey mustard, or a tangy yogurt dip. These nuggets also pair well with a side of steamed vegetables or a crisp salad for a complete, balanced meal. Not only will you enjoy the satisfaction of making a homemade version of a favorite childhood meal, but you’ll also have the comfort of knowing exactly what ingredients went into your delicious and wholesome chicken nuggets.

At first, I was going to do my basic tahini dressing, but then the thought of a basil dressing came t0 mind so I switched it up.

It’s a simple mix of basil pesto, tahini, and lemon. I also added a splash of red wine vinegar. The tahini makes it extra creamy and the pesto adds that herby, garlicky flavor. And when you toss it all together with the crispy chicken?

Creating the Perfect Crunch: Homemade Fried Chicken Nuggets

For those who savor the classic taste of fried chicken, making homemade nuggets is a culinary adventure worth embarking on. To begin, start by cutting boneless, skinless chicken into bite-sized pieces and season with a mixture of salt, pepper, and a touch of onion powder. The secret to achieving that irresistible crunch lies in the breading – a combination of bread crumbs and panko breadcrumbs creates the ideal texture.

To coat the chicken, follow this batch method: first, dip the chicken pieces into a whisked egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off. Then, toss them in the breading mixture until they are evenly coated. For an extra-crispy finish, consider a double coating by repeating the egg and breading steps. Afterward, place the coated nuggets on a wire rack, allowing any excess breading to fall off and ensuring even frying.

When it comes to frying, heat a pan with oil to the perfect temperature, usually around 350°F (175°C). Fry the chicken nuggets in batches to avoid overcrowding, allowing them to cook evenly. Once they turn golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C), transfer them to a wire rack to drain any excess oil. These fried chicken nuggets are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in an oven or air fryer for a quick and satisfying snack.

  5. Season the Squash:

For a healthier twist, bake them in the oven on a large baking sheet, flipping halfway through to ensure they get crispy on the outside while remaining tender inside.

For an even quicker option that doesn’t sacrifice quality, use an air fryer. Place the breaded chicken nuggets in a single layer in the air fryer basket, cooking at 375°F (190°C) for around 10-12 minutes. Your homemade chicken nuggets will emerge perfectly crispy and golden without the need for deep frying. Your family and friends will love these nuggets, and you can even make a big batch and freeze them for future easy dinners or snacks. Reheat in the oven to keep them crispy, and you’ll have a go-to favorite homemade meal that beats any frozen nuggets you can find.
